[edit] Overview

A "Para-X", or in the common spelling, a parax (verb "paraxing"), is a creature which has had it's fundamental nature altered via a magic spell. They are sometimes refered to as paraforms, however. They are largely refered to as paraxes or a more appropriate name for their particular alteration, since they are still closer to whatever they were originally than to a creature from another world.

[edit] Why

Paraxing is useful for harming or helping others or yourself. For example, some mages of ancient took to paraxing in order to place a human soul inside an enchanted weapon or other magic item in order to make it more effective or to save the soul. It is also useful to adapt a creature to your area, if it is not already native. Finally, it can be used to strengthen or weaken their target, either to aid an ally (or customer) or to defeat an enemy (or enemy of a customer).

[edit] Examples

  • Humans who have been altered by magic, generally to be made more or less powerful (depending on whether the spellcaster was friend or foe), are called "parahumans".
  • Masks who have been adapted for non-arctic regions are called "paramasks" or "paraforms".
  • Corol who have had their fundamental nature altered to be more like the Vios, are called "paracorol" to those who do not refer to them as "abominates".
  • Vios who have been altered to appear like Corol in order to infiltrate their number, are called "paravios".
