Corina Elaine Mayfield
Birthdate: June 6th, 1963
Growing up in the lap of luxury, Corina became spoiled rotten, and to this day, expects nothing but the best in all aspects of her life. The best clothing, the finest jewelry, the best food -- even in her work, she has perfectionist tendencies and goes over everything more than once to make sure it's the best she can do. Corina likes being in the spotlight, loves attention (especially from attractive males), and enjoys schmoozing it up with other purebloods at parties. She's a tad on the hedonistic side, and quite enjoys all the benefits that come with wealth and power. As social as she is, however, her innermost, more personal feelings are kept to herself, and will sometimes have a hidden agenda. She's something of a gossip, and will use anything she hears against someone for her own personal advancement.
Strengths: Magically, her strengths lie in classes which require a good amount of wandwork (Charms and Transfiguration), as well as those that require a good deal of memorization. Personality wise, she is social, never shying away from a conversation, and never hesitant to give her opinion when it's needed. Corina is also well-mannered, polite, charming, and rarely ever loses her temper, even around people she doesn't like. When it comes to her work, she is a hard worker, organized, ambitious, and will fight hard for what she wants.
Weaknesses: Magically, Corina struggles in classes which require getting one's hands dirty -- she did poorly in Care of Magical Creatures, Herbology, and, to a lesser degree, Potions. Personality-wise, she is elitist, shallow, can be quite snobby, and is cruel and hostile towards those she openly dislikes. A manipulative and two-faced woman, she will feign niceness to someone, then turn around and talk about them behind their back to her friends. Corina is aloof and choosy when it comes to her friends, but has no qualms about faking friendships with someone to get what she wants.
Fears: Corina is actually kind of afraid of being alone -- thus, she seeks out attention, no matter how she can get it. She was given plenty of it as a child, by her parents and other relatives; to suddenly not have that anymore would frighten her.
History
Corina is one of three daughters of Theodore and Martina Newbury, a wealthy pureblood elite family. She attended Hogwarts from 1974-1981, and looked upon non-purebloods with disdain and scorn, up until her seventh year when she claimed to have a change of heart. The reason behind this change mainly had to do with meeting one Thomas Mayfield, whom she started dating midway through her seventh year, and married when she was 21. They had been married for 14 years when, mysteriously, her husband died while on a mission. Thomas and Corina had only one child, Colin, who is in his seventh year at Hogwarts. After school, she started working as a secretary in the Ministry, then slowly worked her way up to the head of the Education department.
Significant Relationships
She and her son, Colin, have an odd relationship -- she honestly does want what she thinks is best for him; however, he is mistrustful of her and her motives, and hates her quite a bit. Corina knows of his intentions to kill her, but, for some reason, decides not to act upon his threats. Her cousin, Sylvia Foxkith, is someone she considers a friend and confidante, as they've known each other from childhood and share the same elitist views. Vanessa Redington is also one of her closest friends.
One of her closest friends is Thomas Richards, a friend she's had, and once dated, since she was in Hogwarts. They talk quite a bit and enjoy ridiculing those they think are lesser than them, which is.. pretty much everyone who is not pureblooded. She's also close with the Maccay family, and treats their daughter, Ferdy, as if she were one of her own. Constance Gevarre, mother of Anora Bertrade, is someone else she considers a good friend, since they live near each other and share the same values.
