Dominic Bertrade
Dominic constantly feels responsible for the safety of those around him. He feels that if something were to happen to them, he would be the one to blame for not preventing it. This is mainly because of the protective feelings he exhibits towards his sister, which expanded to include his group of friends upon his arrival to Hogwarts. He hates seeing people upset or hurt, and will more than likely sacrifice his personal happiness if it means that someone he cares for can be.
Dominic is very driven when it comes to academics. Although he is only driven to do well in the subjects he has a natural flair or a passion for. When it comes to subjects such as Defence Against the Dark Arts or Astronomy he doesn’t tend to work as hard towards. He’ll spend the time doing the homework for these classes, but he’ll only do the minimum amount of work required to pass.
He is very rational and logical for a Gryffindor. Despite the fact that Gryffindors are well known for their brash and brazen natures, Dominic does not possess these traits. Whenever a situation presents itself, he will be the one looking for the safest (a.k.a. the least-likely-to-get-us-in-detention) route. His friends joke that he should’ve been sorted into Ravenclaw because of his apparent ‘lack of adventurism.’
Outside of pranking situations (which he loathes,) and academic-related activities, Dome is a fairly laid back individual. Around his friends he’s usually easygoing and always on the lookout for a good laugh (so long as it is not at his own expense.)
Strengths
Dominic is very gifted in Potions, Transfigurations, and Care of Magical Creatures. Potions is his favourite by an extreme margin, because he loves the precision and how the end results are always either 100% correct, or not. He is also a gifted cook, his mother taught him when he was quite young, and although he enjoys using Muggle methods, he much prefers to use magic, because it’s way faster, don’t ya know. He’s friendly, but very protective of his younger sister, and if anyone tries to hurt her he’ll be there to defend her. He’s passionate about what he loves, and he’s extremely dedicated to anything he sets his mind to. He’s caring and compassionate, and sensitive to other people’s feelings. He’s always there to help his friends, and will put other’s safety before his own. Despite being a Gryffindor, he is also very rational, and does not act before thinking the present situation over carefully.
Weaknesses
Dominic is a horrible flyer. He is extremely acrophobic, and has an increasing amount of difficulty with Astronomy as a result. His other weak subjects include Charms, and History of Magic. He isn't generally bad at DADA, but he struggles with hexes and jinxs. He also failed his Herbology O.W.L, which caused him to not progress into the N.E.W.T level of the class.
Personality-wise, despite having rationality to a degree, Dominic tends to be a very trusting person. He tends to believe in the best of people, regardless of how they might come across externally. He opens up to people much too quickly, and in the future this will more than likely end disasterously for him.
History
Dominic was born on the island of Corsica to his mother, Lorraine Montague. The two of them shared a house in the small fishing village of Cargèse. Considering the status of Lorraine’s family, they lived quite modestly. Lorraine always felt that material things were not necessary when raising a child. Dominic grew up by the seaside.
When Dom was two, his half-sister Anora was born. Dom didn’t meet his father until he was three. From then on, he would go with his mother to visit his father and his family in Bristol. He was always slightly afraid of Anora’s mother, because even though she seemed loving towards Anora, she was openly bitter towards Dominic, and usually ignored him completely.
At the age of six, Dominic and his mother left Cargèse to live with David and Anora, after Anora’s mother had abandoned the two of them. Dominic took to the change very well, and although he missed living near the ocean, soon the majority of his childhood memories consisted of Bristol, and he barely remembers living without the family he has. Lorraine kept their house by the sea, however, and the family uses it as a vacation home.
When Dominic was ten, he fell out of a high tree fort that David had constructed for him and his friends, and he broke his arm in three places. Ever since that incident, Dom has been terrified of heights, and refuses to fly a broom. He took his Apparition test the moment he became of age, and having a broom for transportation suddenly became quite unnecessary.
As children, Dominic took it upon himself to look after Anora, as both of their parents were usually working, and Dom felt badly for the poor nanny that Anora was always playing practical jokes on. Usually this meant that he would be the subject of Anora’s pranking, but he didn’t mind it as much as the nanny did. He would take her to the heart of Bristol where the two of them would have many an adventure. Dominic admires his sister for her optimistic and adventurous outlook on life. Anytime something went amiss, Anora would always be ready with a “Well, at least it isn’t …” statement.
When Anora would go to their grandfather’s, Dom went much of the time. However, he sensed the two of them had a special bond, and so he let her go by herself most of the time. It was during those summers when his friends and Anora were out and about that Dom took up the culinary arts. He found cooking was similar (yet much less complicated) to Potions, his favourite subject. Dominic found he had a natural ability in the kitchen, and spent many a rainy afternoon cooking up new and interesting dishes. Anora constantly tried to convince him to start up his own restaurant, but Dom prefers his father’s career of Cursebreaking, and wants to carry on in his footsteps.
Relationships
Family
- David Bertrade (Father): Dominic admires and looks up to his father immensely. His father has always been around when he’s needed him, even if his career keeps him busy and on the move much of the time. He wants to become a Cursebreaker like his father, and whenever David returns home, Dom is always pestering him for tales of his exploits.
- Lorraine Bertrade (Mother): Dom hardly remembers his mother’s personality from before they moved to Bristol. In Cargèse she was quite simplistic, and the isolation did not make her unhappy, but it was dreadfully boring at times. When the two of them joined David and Anora in Bristol, she underwent quite the transformation. No longer was she the modest Healer on the island. She still retained her motherly and loving persona towards her family, but she swept in the social scene. Party planning, hosting, and attending became a new norm for the Bertrades, and nobody was complaining. Dominic and Anora usually use the parties as an excuse to invite their friends along, and steal Firewhiskey from the festivities (of course, only after the ridiculous formalities present at all upper-class soirees.)
She is the stricter of the two parents, however. She worries incessantly about the safety of her children, hence why she withdrew them from school for the month of October. But Dominic and herself, not unlike David and Anora, share a special, unspoken bond, and they understand one another, and each-other’s opinions.
- Anora Bertrade (Half-Sister): Dominic has always, and will always, take it upon himself to quietly keep a sharp eye on his sister. He trusts her judgement, but because he is his mother’s child he worries about her and for some reason, needs to be certain she is safe. Many of these feelings derive from a certain incident at the London Zoo when they were younger. The two of them were at the lion’s exhibit, and Anora , thinking they were giant kitties, jumped down into the pen when Dominic was supposed to be watching her. Fortunately, she didn’t make it all the way down the tree she was climbing down into the pen, and the lions luckily didn’t spot her, so the maintenance crew got her out without a scratch. They did leave a severe warning about watching small children, and Dominic was extremely ashamed. He vowed never to let anything like that ever happen to her again if he could help it.
Friends
- Edward McMillan: Dome's bff. They met on the train, and found that even though they've been sorted into different houses, they have a lot in common. Ed likes to tease Dome about his fear of heights.
- Phoebe Hamilton: Dome completely fancies Phoebe, and he thinks that she's incredibly fantastic. He loves how easygoing she is, how quirky and random she can be, and how he feels when he's around her. Even though he feels incredibly awkward around her most of the time, and feels like he has to appear impressive to her, he is pretty much willing to do whatever it takes to spend time with her.
- Jojo Jenkins: Roomies since first year, Dome and Jojo share their irrational fear of heights, and were instant friends. They have very similar personalities, and get along well with each other.
- Mackenzie Wickham: Dome and Mackenzie have been friends since second year, and they dated for a while in sixth year. However, they felt being together romantically was weird, and they realized their relationship was better left on a more platonic level. The two of them are still good friends.
- Cecilia Bree: Dome and CeCe dated in his sixth year for about four months. They broke up at the end of the year when they realized that what they had was mainly an ILLUSION OF LOVE. It was a mutual breakup, and they stayed friends.
Other
- Constance Gevarre (Anora’s Mother): Dominic remembers Anora’s mother from when he used to go and visit David and Anora before he lived with them. Constance never liked Dome, and Dome constantly felt like he was imposing on her family while he was visiting, as she was never openly kind to him. He is extremely suspicious of her, and will never trust her with his sister, even if she is technically her daughter.

Dome was born December 9th, 1987
Sagittarians are positive people.They have a bright outlook on life, are enterprising, full of energy and vitality. Versatile, adventurous and eager to expand their range beyond the comfortable and familiar. They enjoy travel and exploring, and their minds are continually searching for new experiences. They are ambitious, optimistic folk, and nothing seems to get them down.
They are idealists, and this seems to keep them going even when thereare disappointments which smash their plans. They have a tendency to get over zealous when they are interested in something. They are believers, and what they believe in, they are willing to fight for. They are both loyal and independent at the same time. They manage to balance both traits.
Sagittarians are usually modest and often spiritual, with strong values. They like rituals. They are profound thinkers, and are gifted with foresight and good judgment. They are avid learners, love to initiate new projects and make great researchers.
They study quickly with keen minds. They have an expectant attitude and a penchant for new experiences, which may account for the fact that Sagittarians are noted for their longevity. They are often intuitive and original thinkers. Better at adapting than inventing, they work well in collaboration with others. A strong-will and good organization ability combined with their other talents usually bring any project they undertake to a successful conclusion.
There is also a side of the Sagittarian that is quite superstitious.Sagittarians can also be very restless people wanting to know everything that is going on around them and wanting to go everywhere. They become bored when they are surrounded by people or situations they are not interested in. They have a tendency to be unconcerned or seem unaware of the thoughts and feelings of others.
