Sunday 20th September
- Rainham RSPB: dark-morph Eleonora's Falcon briefly over (fairly high) before heading east and inland 15:10hrs; seen by 9-10 observers. A first for the London recording area if accepted (see LondonBirdersYahooGroup http://tinyurl.com/n6dzzh ); juvenile Montagu's Harrier flew over at 2:55pm (RBA);
- London Wetland Centre: Spotted Crake still in reeds on north side of Main Lake from Dulverton Hide this morning (still showing well 13:30hrs), Yellow-browed Warbler behind Wader Scrape Hide briefly at 09:20 then later near WWF Hide (Found by NPS and relocated by Chris Turner -Birdguides); 103 Gadwall, 70 Shoveler, Kestrel, 4 Hobby, Water Rail, Kingfisher, Sand Martin south, 9 migrant Song Thrushes including 2 high south, Nightingale (seen briefly in Wildside from the 'summer route' path - non public access area), 25+ Chiffchaff (including 3 presumed abietinus types), 2 Willow Warbler, 2 Spotted Flycatchers (near bat house on Sheltered Lagoon + Wildside)) (LWC website) in addition to the above, 27 Wigeon, 4 Common Buzzards NW, 99 Swallow ESE, 4 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Whitethroats, 8 Blackcaps, 11 Reed Warblers (NPS). Spotted Crake came out moved 10metres to the left in front of reeds across from Dulverton, below towers on horizon at 4:40pm, 3 Hobby, 6 Wigeon, 4 Snipe etc (Michael Mac); Sp Crake later chased by Moorhens (a recurring conflict)and flew to large Main Lake Island to right of Dulverton Hide where seen earlier in week (per Angus Innes).
- King George VI Res: a dark juvenile Long-tailed Skua sitting on water in south-west corner at 0930, flew to north end before circling back round and crossing south over Staines Res south basin and gaining height until last seen at about 0945 high over Staines town (Andrew Moon, Pete Naylor).
- Regent's Park: Honey-buzzard SSW 13:55hrs, Red Kite over 14:10hrs, Common Buzzard 10.55am, Hobby 10.30am, 400 House Martins, 160 Swallows, 7 Meadow Pipits, Grey Wagtail, 3 cont Song Thrushes, Reed Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, 30 Chiffchaffs, 4 Blackcaps, Jackdaw (Tony Duckett).
- Broadwater: Nightjar seen twice in flight (calling on one pass) at 1935 from riverside path midway between the hides. Last seen flying to S. No further sightings in 15 mins I stayed on site (before giving up due to lack of a torch!). Also 10 adult, 1 3rd winter and 3 1st winter Yellow-legged Gulls in the gull roost alongside 320 Herring, 120 Lesser Black-backed and 1100 Black-headed Gulls, 8 roosting Little Egrets, 550 roosting Jackdaw, 2 Egyptian Geese and a Snipe (Martin Sullivan).

- Ham House, Ham: 1 Common Buzzard flew SW 13:40, 1 Hobby feeding most of the afternoon (Hugh Bradshaw).
- Inner London/Wandsworth Road: 2 Swallow low over road changed direction 1:30pm (Michael Mac).
- Barnes Playing Fields: 1 Hobby low caught dragonfly. 2nd Hobby low then went high at 2:40pm (Michael Mac).
- Richmond Park: 1 Hobby about 3 metres away at 2 metres high above path, caught bat in the dark at Lower Pen Ponds (Time 7:30pm). Earlier on in light saw 2 Swallow, pair of Stonechat, 2 Chiffchaff and about 10 Long-tailed tit, 4 half grown G C Grebe chicks Lower Pen Ponds (Michael Mac).

- Alexandra Park: Viz mig 0700-0930: Reed Bunting north 0800, 100+ Swallows south, 22 Mipits, 6 RN Parakeets, 10 Song Thrushes, 20+ Chaffinches, 2 Jackdaw. Cricket Scrub: Lesser Whitethroat, 10+ Blackcaps, 5 Chiffchaff (Bob Watts, Stuart Harrington); dark-morph Honey-buzzard SE 12:13hrs (Bob Watts).
- West Hyde: 55 Meadow Pipit, Red Kite and a Buzzard (Martin Sullivan).
- London Wetland Centre: Spotted Crake still; Red Kite, 12 Common Buzzard, 9 Hobby inc 6 passage (Birdguides). Spotted Crake seen pm on western edge of main lake in flag and reed opposite Dulverton (Angus Innes).
- Richmond Park: skywatch 1530-1830. Buzzard passage of 19 birds between 1620 & 1700 (4 soared to a great height @1620; one mid-height ESE @1625; one low over centre of Park @1630; 12 circling over Richmond side drifted W @1645 & one over mobbed by Parakeets @ 1700).( J.Wilczur & F. Mareovic with thanks to DL & RK for alert). NB Probably all different to birds over LWC.
- West Ham: Pied Flycatcher in Flower Garden 08:00hrs (Birdguides).
- Horsendon Hill: Firecrest near Ranger's Station this a.m. (Birdguides), Cuckoo, 2 Chiffchaff 12:00 (John Palmer). also 9 Common Buzzards WNW between 1100-1300 hrs and 1 Buzzard sp probably a Honey Buzzard SW @ 11.20, and 378 Swallows ESE (NPS)

- Vicarage Farm, Enfield: 1 Pied Flycatcher, in Crab Apple & Ash,'Barracks', 09:26 BST; 2 '1st-winter' Spotted Flycatcher, together, near Merryhills Brook; 1 Whinchat, 'Barracks', 09:48 BST; 1 fem/imm Stonechat,(1st of the autumn!); 8 Skylark, together; 1 Sand Martin, amongst many Swallows & few House Martins; 2 Common Whitethroat; 1 Little Owl (Robert Callf).
- Park Farm, Enfield: 1 '1st-winter' Spotted Flycatcher; 1 Clouded Yellow, nectaring on dandelions (Robert Callf).
- Lake Farm CP, Hayes: 122 Swallows and 18 House Martins over up to 10.15 a.m. in broad -front movement, all going E or ESE, an unusual direction for autumn (W or S far more usual). Largest party of Swallows was 46 (Peter Naylor).
- Staines Moor: 5+ Whinchat, Hobby (Jim Fell). Around 1500hrs a Tree Sparrow watched feeding in the NW section of the moor for several minutes, then flew off NW - unexpected (Rob Innes).
- Staines Res: Black-necked Grebe and juv Little Gull S basin, also Rock Pipit (Rob Innes, Bob Warden).
- Mill Hill NW7: Hobby heading South (Garden tick. Steve Blake).
- Woolwich Ferry (ca 11am): Sandwich Tern following ferry amongst many Black-headed Gulls, picking up food items stirred up by propellers (Quentin Given).
- South Norwood CP: 3 Shoveler, Little Grebe, 4 Swallow, small numbers of Chiffchaff, Common Whitethroats (CroydonBirders).
- Broadwater GP: 2 adult and a first winter YL Gull. One of the adults was busy attacking a Moorhen. Also 20 Wigeon, 14 Gadwall, 128 Pochard, 66 Shoveler, 62 Great Crested Grebes, 180 House Martin, 2 Siskin, 4 Chiffchaff and a Reed Warbler this morning. In a quick visit in failing light this evening managed to pick out 3 adult YL Gulls (very possibly more [indeed just seen 5 adults & 1 1st winter reported on Birdguides]) amongst the 2000+ roosting gulls. Also 5 Little Egrets roosting (Martin Sullivan).
- Thorney Park: 250+ House Martins swooping down onto lake, 3 Kingfishers, 1 Dunnock, 1 Green Wodpecker, 3 Gt C Grebes (1 juv), 1 L B B Gull, 4 R N Parakeets flew over (Sue Giddens).
- Kensington Gardens: pair of Peregrine Falcons at dusk, female carrying fresh kill (pigeon) (Stuart Harrington).
Friday 18th September
- London Wetland Centre: Spotted Crake seen again today (Birdguides).
- Rainham Marshes: Pintail, Marsh Harrier mid-afternoon, Peregrine, 7 Little Egret, 8 Ringed Plover, 3 Dunlin, 2 Knot, 32 Black-tailed Godwit, 34 Redshank, 6 Greenshank, 6 Yellow-legged Gull, Arctic Tern, several Yellow Wagtail, Whinchat, Reed Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, Spotted Flycatcher (LondonBirders).
- Brent Res: female Merlin hunting over Silver Jubilee Park at 10.10 for several minutes; also juv Scaup, female Pintail, 24 Wigeon, 2 Dunlin & Green Sand (Andrew Self & Andrew Verrall).
- Wormwood Scrubs: (0700 -14.30) Goshawk west at 11:50 also 6 Whinchats, 2 Yellow Wagtails, c2 Whitethroat, c4 Blackcap, c8 Chiffchaff, c200 House Martin - our largest count ever, c32 Swallow, 6 Jackdaw, 1 Collared Dove, c40 Meadow Pipit, 3 Linnet, c1,000 Rose-ringed Parakeet leaving roost & 1 Buzzard-sized raptor seen distantly on the thermals east of The Scrubs heading south (Rob Ayers, David Lindo & Roy Nuttall).
- Regents Park: 2 Woodlarks over 07.50am, 25 House Martins, 10 Meadow Pipits, Whinchat, 20 Chiffchaffs, 4 Blackcaps (Tony Duckett); Little Grebe (first time I've seen one competing with waterfowl for bread), 5 Chiffchaff with flock of various tits, 30+ Egyptian Geese, 4 House Martin feeding very high up late PM (Michael Mac).
- Grays: Woodlark over near station 0910 (John Murray).
- Amwell GP: 3 Pintail, 8 Common Buzzard, 2 Little Egret, Common Sandpiper, 40 Swallow, Stonechat, 7 Chiffchaff (HertsBirding).
- Beddington SF: 3 Dunlin, Little Stint, Yellow Wagtail (SBC).
- Alexandra Park: Wheatear mound then ckt pitch and flew west over scrub 08:20, Whitethroat, 12+ Chiffchaffs, 10+ Blackcaps, 3 Mipits Ckt Scrub, juv Jackdaw still with Crows in nursery (Bob Watts, Stuart Harrington); Wheatear back on mound by 08:50, plus 2 Whitethroats (David Callahan).
- Rainham Marshes RSPB: juv Arctic Tern west mid-morning & then still present off rubbish dump late morning; also 2 Knot & 6 Yellow Wagtails along sea wall (John Murray); Spotted Flycatcher (ELBF).
- Tyttenhanger GP's: 2 Whinchat, 2 Hobby, 6 Buzzard, 50+ House Martin, Willow Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff (Steve Blake).
- Willows Farm: 3 Yellow Wagtail (Steve B).
- South Norwood Lake: 2 Cormorant, 25 Tufted Duck, 5 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 3 Nuthatch, 8 Ring-necked Parakeet, 2 Jackdaw over S/SW, 1 Grey Wagtail, 2 Chiffchaff (1 singing) (John Watson).
- Wanstead Flats: 4 Meadow Pipit, 5 Whinchat, Chiffchaff, 2 Spotted Flycatchers (J Lethbridge).
- Bushy Park: Common Buzzard over at 5.15pm, 2 Whinchats (Roger Unite). Two Buzzards circling low over the west end of the park at 1550, seen from QE2 Res (DMH).

- Crossness: Guillemot on River Thames as viewed from the Thamesview Golf Centre mid-morning. Pair of Peregrines, 21 Black-tailed Godwits, Whinchat, Stonechat, 25 Redshanks (Kev Jarvis & I Miller).
- Rainham Marshes: the Crossness Guillemot "drifted past on the ebbing tide" (London Birders Yahoo group); Guillemot still on the River Thames this afternoon, also Little Stint, 2 Knot, 4 Whinchat (Birdguides); 2 Sparrowhawk, 3 Kestrel, Water Rail, 10 Ringed Plover, 6 Dunlin, 2 Common Snipe, 64 Black-tailed Godwits, Common Sandpiper, 75 House Martin, 10 Meadow Pipit, Northern Wheatear, 5 Song Thrush, 3 Reed Warblers, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 18 Blackcap, 7 Chiffchaff, 35 Long-tailed Tits, 10 Chaffinch (ELBF).
