Fujitsu Siemens Computers has unveiled the first dedicated "green PC" for consumers. The Green Edition SCALEO PC runs software purposely developed to reduce power consumption and meets the United States Environmental Protection Agency's stringent Energy Star 4.0 guidelines for energy efficiency. The PC also features a "green" manufactured internal circuit board, reducing the size of its carbon footprint. The SCALEO PC Green Edition will go on sale from October 2007 with prices around £349.

The SCALEO PC Green Edition features an Intel® Pentium® Dual Core™ processor, 1GB RAM working memory, a 160GB hard disk, a multinorm DVD writer with Double Layer support, an 11-in-1 card reader for all the usual card formats and runs Windows Vista® Home Premium operating system.

The launch of the Green Edition SCALEO PC is the latest in a long line of initiatives from Fujitsu Siemens Computers underlining its commitment to the environment. For some time, the company has been offering environmentally friendly versions of its ESPRIMO Business PC and Business Notebooks. As early as 1992, Fujitsu Siemens Computers issued its first guidelines on environment-friendly product design. In 1993 the first "Green PC" with an automatic power-saving function was introduced. Building on this, the first power-saving ESPRIMO PC was developed in 2005 and an ESPRIMO Energy Saving Edition was announced in June 2007, enabling business customers to save up to 50 percent on energy consumption compared with a three-year old standard PC.
