Fujitsu Siemens Computers (FSC) is punting a leaner, greener channel strategy to its partners.
FSC, which has been undergoing restructuring in the face of a tough market, confirmed last week that it had hired a new channel accounts director.
Steve Torbe will take on a far broader portfolio when he begins the new role on 1 October. He will effectively operate a one-stop-shop for all second-tier channel relationships, which include enterprise resellers, data centre services and end-users.
Underlining FSC's commitment to all things green, Torbe said that, in his new role, he will be putting across a "very strong environmental message to the channel".
He told El Reg: "There's a great opportunity for our resellers to build green issues including heat and power into their customer conversations."
He reckoned that finding efficient ways to reduce heat output in data centres was "something that needs to be addressed urgently and the channel has a big part to play in that."
Some of the logic behind the firm's shake-up can perhaps be explained in the recent less-than-attractive EMEA PC shipment stats, which saw FSC stumble in the face of fierce competition. Industry analysts Gartner found that it had "continued to lag behind the market growth average."
Market share dropped 0.7 per cent to 5.9 per cent in the second quarter of 2007 compared to the same period last year.
