The first Post Office was on South Mill Street. It opened September 4, 1867 with Albert J. Haney serving as president. Back then, mail was delivered on horseback from Springfield to Eugene. In all, the Post Office moved seven times before settling into its current location at 6th Street and A Street. Other locations included three on Mill Street, the Masonic Hall, Second and Main, 4th and Main, and the IOOF Building.
