Celeste's parents were Ira Campbell and Idaho. As a child she lived in the Ira Campbell House with her siblings Jackson, Cogswell and Eva in Eugene.

She was a University of Oregon graduate in music, piano and a voice teacher. She was active in the Eugene Shakespeare Club, Fortnightly Club, Natural History Club and Lane County Pioneer Society. She belonged to the Red Cross Motor Corps and assisted with surgical dressings in both World War I and II. The Campbell Senior Center, located at 155 High St., was named after her.
