Murahara Sakura (or "Cherry" as she is more commonly referred) is a Mew Mew from the Kokoro dimension. Unlike many of the other Mew Mews, Cherry volunteered to take part in the project. She is usually seen as a shy yet responsible member of the group, and one of the few who actually carries out the chores she's been given at Cafe Mew Mew. It should also be noted that she doesn't appear too much anymore.

History

Before Kokoro

Cherry initially lied about her entire past, claiming she was an orphan so that she wouldn't be persuaded to return home.

Both of her parents' families had been strongly against Cherry's parents, Mae Hyo and Murahara Nagataka, dating or even marrying, and so, as soon as she was born, Cherry was taken to Kyoto by her father while her mother travelled to Korea with the rest of her family. The divorce was settled a few months later, and everyone pretended as if this had never happened. (Yes, this would make her Japanese-Korean.)

Now, this isn't to say that her parents didn't love each other - because they did - but neither of them put up much of a fight to stay together because they knew their families would never accept one another and that this would only lead to complications and hard feelings down the road.

Cherry's father was a veterinarian, which is probably why her love for animals began to develop. They spent a lot of time together, and he eventually explained to Cherry what had happened between himself and her mother. As time passed, Cherry began to realize he was staying at work more and more. Finally, her father showed up with a visitor - a woman that was to become Cherry's stepmother.

Now, Cherry and her new stepmom didn't have any problems getting along, but she began to feel that she was in the way and that she was a reminder to her stepmother that her father had loved someone else. Cherry also began to think that maybe true love wasn't something that could ever happen to anyone.

Cherry began studying hard and eventually won an internship to work with some of Keiichiro's relatives in Tokyo. Pretty soon she found out about the Mew Project. Being greatly moved by Keiichiro and Ryou's efforts to save the world, Cherry offered to help in any way possible. As things turned out, she was indeed compatible, and was injected with the DNA of the Joaquin Kit Fox.

Kokoro Days

Cherry eventually became friends with the other Mew Mews, specifically Shimizu Arisa who was practically her opposite. Plum was hyperactive and predictable. Cherry typically preferred to stay on the sidelines, but was dragged out into the open by Gamu who signed her up as singer Pink Sakuranbo. Since then, Cherry's been somewhat avoidant and eventually dropped the performances that had been scheduled. Cherry does still love singing, however, and has a strong love for Japanese and Korean pop music. She has been seen working with Bob in his office, although she is not employed.

Kokoro Draft Future

In the future, Cherry marries Bob Pushkaboomda who has become a bishounen by that time. They have one daughter, Kaoru, who suffers from permanent ailments due to her gijinka form. Her ears and tail (like Shirogane Rinji) are always present.

Personality

Cherry has a strong sense of justice and tries to be as well-mannered as possible. However, she's incredibly shy and edgey about some topics. Plum teasing her about her "forbidden teacher-student relationship" with Bob will send her into a blabbering, blushing frenzy.

She loves foxes and wants to preserve the planet with all her heart. [/end vague cheesiness]

Relationships

Family

Will update later.

Friends

Here too.

Lovelife

  • Bob Pushkaboomda: Now, Bob and Cherry started out on the wrong foot entirely. Bob was trying to get Ryou and Ichigo to finalize a divorce at the time, and quite honestly, he gave off every impression of being a jerk. It wasn't until Plum, Bob, Ichigo, and Cherry went to visit Ryou at Tokyo University that she began to think Bob might actually be a nice guy. When both she and Bob were complaining on how they were still single, Plum decided to hook them up. It more or less worked, the two have been dating ever since, although they have to escape Bob's fangirls constantly. Bob was also a guitarist for Pink Sakuranbo. Both were members of SPARCK.

The Name

Though there are lots of arguments about her name and nickname not meaning the same thing, this was common knowledge from the beginning and was purposely done. Sakura means "cherry blossom tree", and that was the original theme her authoress wanted for her. "Cherry" was easier to say, and was put in place to keep with the ongoing food theme already present in Tokyo Mew Mew. Both the flowers and the cherry fruits are themes in the foxgirl's attacks.

Mew Mew Information

Basics

Sakura's henshin outfit is a tank top with a skirt that has quite a few points to it (kind of like a flower) that curl under and shorts underneath. It is a mulberry-type purple color with red trim. She has high red boots, again, that come up at a point near her knees. Her leg band is on the left side. She sometimes has red gloves, and one version of her outfit had a bow in the back of the skirt, but otherwise she wears a red bow in her hair.

Weapon and Attack

Mew Cherry's weapon is the Cherry Boomerang. It is an oversized red boomerang with decorations coming off each end looking like small artificial fox tails arranged with cherry-shaped bells. The weapon itself was modified once to be more ornate and resemble the anime version of the original weapons.

Mew Cherry has two attacks:

  • "Ribbon Cherry Tornado!": She uses the Cherry Boomerang to strike an enemy, it then comes back to her for another shot if needed... unless she misses.
  • "Petal Shower!": She can create a cloud of cherry blossoms to distract an enemy; good for escaping.

Special Abilities

She's fairly agile since her authoress favors speed. Go figure.

Trivia

  • Cherry was initially a self-insert; though she is not now, she shares some personality traits with her authoress.
  • Cherry's parents' names mean "final duty" (Hyo) and "everlasting final duty" (Nagataka).
  • Cherry was originally supposed to have a crush on Mew Project leader Shirogane Ryou. Luckily, this idea died out before she entered the game.
  • Cherry originally had the ability to transform into a white kitten named "Mura". At one point she had a teal, white, and pink outfit with a baton for a weapon. This idea also died, when her authoress finally decided on the fox DNA and dropped the cat thing all together.
  • She originally went by the surname "Akasaka", this was later dropped, mostly because it was too sueish. She was also originally an orphan, but this, too, was too sueish.
  • Cherry is probably the character involved in the most retcons.
  • Cherry appears as Cherie Edwards, Carmine's mother in alleyWAY. Her husband's name, Lamont, means "lawyer", as a reference to Bob. Cherie was a member of SPARCK in this story as well.

Take that. =O
