Jacob Stapleton is a character in Thompson Colton: Agent of MI3. He is the villain of the episode "A Murder in the Middle of Summer", and the prime suspect of a chain of crimes in the small, isolated town of Knaptoft in Leicestershire. Prior to his involvement in the series, he was a member of one of the richer families, and was elected as one of the village leaders, though under strict skepticism.

He was born into the House of Stapleton prematurely, roughly at seven and a half months after conception. For this, he was always treated differently, and he strongly resented that throughout his life. He could not even advance past an executive-level position in his family business, even though he was a good and capable worker AND the second son of the CEO, his father.

Failing in business, he turned to local politics, attempting to be elected to the town council. Nevertheless, the village knew of his past, and his nomination was hotly disputed. Jacob was eventually admitted as a councillor, though being voted in by a tiny margin of thirteen for to twelve against.

Despite his denial, Stapleton did indeed suffer from a condition: he was slowly developing psychopathic tendencies, and this, coupled with his near-loss, quickly drove him over the edge. Thus did Stapleton think up a a plot to attack those who had dared opposed him in the past.

Plot

Spoiler warning: OMG SPOILER! LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!

Jacob Stapleton drew up a list of those that he would need to elimnate. After some evalutation, he decided to rule his family out: "to them, I was enough punishment", and only kill the twelve council members that had dared to vote against him during his nomination and election. He then prepared for his attack by purchasing twelve combat knives in nearby Leicester, and also buying pairs of gloves.

The manner of attack was simple: he, as a council member, could simply give an excuse to the people he visited that he wiahed to talk politics - in secret. Then, he would close the doors and draw the curtains, giving a similar excuse. After some chit-chat, Stapleton would execute the party member, and throw the knife into a river, washing the fingerprints and any scent away.

After seven murders, Thompson Colton was called in to aid the local police in investigating the matter. Two more died before he could gain enough information from police files to suspect Stapleton. Colton waited outside the house of a council member, and before the assailant could attack, 0011 fired a warning shot. The would-be murderer ran off, but gave no clue as to his identity.

Colton prevented another murder, but Stapleton escaped him again. Finally, Colton posed as the last council member, and caught Stapleton. After a bloody knife-fight, Stapleton was severely injured and sent into custody. He is currently on trial for nine murders in the Leicester area.
