After you have installed the JMRI programs it will be necessary to set the preferences in order to run the programs.

First -- you must determine which connection you are making to the program -- this will be determined by the COM Port which is being used by your interface.

Second - click on Edit

                 Preferences
to open the Preference selection window.

The Layout connection box should show 'none' to indicate that you have not yet selected the interfaace device which you are using to connect JMRI to your Command Station/layout.

Click on the arrow on the right side of this box and use the drop down items to select you interface device.

The serial port box should show 'none'. This indicated that you have not selected the com port to which your interface device is connected to the computer.

Click on the arrow on the right side of this box and select the appropriate com port.

The Programmer defaults selection must also be completed depending on the interface you are using. For most users 'Comprehensive' should be selected.

When you are finished click on Save.

At this time you should Quit and then Restart the program.

Clicking on the 'layout connection' box will open a list of ways that the program supports connecting to your layout. Hopefully you can find the relevant option in this list - Select it and save.

Hopefully the remaining options can be figured out from a combination of your user manuals and common sense! [No offense, but if you don't know what command staton you're using we probably can't help :-) ]

Once these are set appropriately, you should be able to get to the 'start screen' shown in the DecoderPro page without either option being 'greyed out'
