Southeast Asia History: Michigan State University
-- The Department of History at Michigan State University seeks applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in Southeast Asia. We seek candidates whose expertise complements departmental strengths and who are interested in transnational and interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration.
-- Active engagement in the Asian Studies Center is expected. Special attention will be given to candidates who have a research or teaching area in Islam in Southeast Asia.
-- Successful candidates will be expected to establish a strong, externally recognized and supported program of scholarship; to develop excellence in teaching; and to establish a recognized program of outreach and professional service appropriate to their scholarship. Teaching load is two courses per semester and includes all levels from general undergraduate education to advanced graduate training.
-- Ph.D. required. Salaries, benefits, and support for research are competitive. Full-time academic-year appointments for this year's successful candidates will begin August 15, 2008.
-- Applicants should submit a cover letter addressing research and teaching, a vita, a writing sample, and three letters of recommendation.
