a. The most critical issue has to do with natural disaster type things. They are drought and flood, fire and sunshine and torrential rain. These things vary with the seasons.

b. The everglades consist of 8 different habitats. They are Marine/Estuarine, Mangroves, Coastal Prairie, Freshwater Marl Prairie, Freshwater Slough, Cypress, Hardwood Hammocks & Pinelands.

c. The largest predator is the American Alligator. It lives in freshwater lakes, rivers, and swamps. They occasionally live in brackish water. Alligators feed off of smaller animals.

d. The West Indian manatee is a marine mammal that grows to 1,000 pounds and roams U.S. coastal waters. They usually live in warmer waters like the Florida Bay. They eat sea grasses and aquatic plants. The problems manatees are having are most of their problems are human-related. As our cities expand, their natural habitat is decreased. Added to this problem is the establishment of automatic locks and dams which can harm or kill manatees.

e. Fires are not necessarily bad for the Everglades, they need to occur every once in awhile so the common ones are okay. If the fires begin to burn out of control & harm humans or animals, that’s when they become dangerous.

f. Different rain storms helped to create the everglades.
