Classwork #2

a)Wetlands are the transitional link between the water and the land. Wetlands are characterized by water type, and vegitation. Wetlands are divided into two groups: estuarine or palustrine wetlands. There are also Emergent wetlands, Shrub wetlands, and Forested wetlands.

b)Protect and improve water quality, help control flooding and erosion, and provide habitat for terrestrial and aquatic wildlife.

c)35%. 50 major tree species and more than 2,700 different plant species.

d)Protect water quality, create habitat for fish and wildlife, improve air quality, encourage recreation, and contribute to the economy.

e)autotrophs - self feeders; heterotrophs - other-feeders

f)If all of the Plankton were removed it would stop the food chain killing all larger organisms that feed on them. Plankton are useful indicators of high nutrient conditions due to their propensity to multiply rapidly in the right conditions, so if they were lost no indication would be availible. I think that if there was an overabundance of Plankton here that it would drownd out other organisms and hurt the entire ecosystem.

g)It is a problem everywhere just for the fact that there are so many people now we are destroying our natural ecosystems to accomitate everyone. There are other places to build on but soon there will not be anyroom left at all, even though wetlands are a crutial factor in our ecosystem. This is a problem for the rest of the world as it is at Cheasepeak Bay
