Can the everglades survive?
A) The most critical issue in the everglades is water management. The varying wet and dry seasons dramatically change the concentration of species in a given area because the animals migrate to areas with more water. Disruptions in the water cycly can ruin crucial feeding & nesting conditions.
B) Habitats include Marine, Mangrove, Prairie coastal, Freshwater marl prairie, Freshwater slough, Cypress, Hardwood hammocks, and Pinelands.
C) The largest preaditor is would be the Alligator, which range from coastal swamps in north Carolina, down to the tip of Florida and along the Golf coast to the Rio Grande. Alligators eat almost everything from insects and shellfish to mamals and birds.
D) A manatee is a large thick skinned marine mamal, also known as a sea cow, which inhabits slow moving rivers and shallow eustaries. Manatees eat sea grasses and aquatic grasses, and they are threatened by boat propellers, vandal attacks, poaching, and habitat destruction.
E) Fire is not bad, in fact it is the begining of new life in the everglades, clearing decaying vegitation, allowing for new growth.
F) Tamiami formation caused by sediment & calcium deposits. Fresh water from big Cypress & salt water from the Golf of Mexico meeting to form a highly productive mangrove eustary.
