Walk down to the dumpster?

You walk some fifty feet down the alley to the dumpster. As you approach it, you can make out the form of a bum sleeping behind it. He is curled up under some old newspapers. The smell here is horrible. It seems the bum has been using this corner behind the dumpster for his own personal lavatory. Strangely enough, there are also some shoes laying here and there around the dumpster. They are nice shoes but there do not appear to be any matching pairs. There is nothing else here that appears to be of much importance.
Do you:
- Search the bum?
- Open the dumpster lid and have a look inside?
- Examine some of the shoes laying about?
- Walk back to the front of the alley?
