The three of you turn and move quickly. You rush past the store you were holed up in, and continue through the alleyways, deeper into the shadows between the tall buildings.
You haven't gone ten minutes when you hear Sam stifle a scream. When you turn to see what the issue is, her eyes are wide and her hands cover her mouth. You follow her stare over your shoulder, into the opening of a smaller alleyway, and see three bodies. A man, a woman, and a young girl. All three have been stripped nude, their bloody clothing lying in tatters around them. There faces are so badly beaten and swollen that you can barely tell they're human, and the bodies of all three look as if they were mauled by some jungle cat. Flesh is torn and ripped about their forms like a pack of wild beasts went at them, and to add insult to injury, there's a broom wedged into the woman's crotch. You fight your gag reflex and turn away, pulling Sam behind you as you keep moving.
You move through the alleys until your pace is diminished from being absolutely tired. The three of you can barely go further. Up ahead are two buildings you think you could find shelter in for the time being. One is a three story building that seems like some form of apartment complex, and the other is a two story building with no indication of what it might be save for a buzzer by the back door with a little sign that says "ring for deliveries." You definitely need to rest, and although neither place looks perfect, you'll need to choose one.
