You stay quiet and low and it seems like you will go unnoticed – but then one of the three throws a stone, which bounces from the water and strikes you.
There is no doubt. The wiry women have spotted you. They point and gabble excitedly to one another. One of them rises into the air and flies across the water to look at you more closely. You have never seen creatures like this before.
"Hail there, creature," you call out.
The creature darts up higher into the air at your voice, then cautiously she approaches once more.
"What are you, in our valley?" it demands. "What are you doing here?"
