Search for food by following the tracks

You follow the tracks for about an hour without finding anything. Much to your dismay you see that the tracks move onto a rockier part of the desert and you are no longer able to follow them as they are too faint for you to track. You sit down against a small, dead, desert tree to plan your next move. Just then you here a scratching noise coming from inside the tree. It sounds a though it is coming from some sort of animal! How ironic. You spend an hour looking for food and then just when you stop food finds you. You are careful not to give in to hope. Hope may well lead to disappointment.
You find that the noise is coming from a small hollow. You try to look in side without alerting your potential breakfast but straw from a nest covers the opening and you can't see inside. Do you want to:
