Run up the stairs

You quickly run up the stairs. You feel your heart pounding in your throat like crazy. On top of the ladder is a red door. When you hear the guy taking footsteps on the floor below, you rush into the door and close it behind you. You feel an icy cold all over your body, and when you turn around, you see that you stand on top of the roof. You try to open the red door, but unfortunately it can only be opened from the inside. You look around to find some solution. You then see a fire escape. Your plan is to either go through one of the rooms on your floor, or to go to the ground and walk back in. You can't go through your own window, since it is locked.
