"Okay, slowpoke," I tease, sliding off the bench to stand up, empty plate and glass chittering together in my hands. Everyone else has already turned in their plates; I'm already leaving Jeffrey alone. But no, that's not fair, he's just more comfortable this way.

I spotted my Class's mascot trotting under the tables, sniffing the ground in places (probably seeking scraps), receiving brief attention from some of the other kids. "Hey, Whiskers!" I cooed as I walked by him. I swear, they must have genetically engineered him to be excruciatingly cute, the way he rubs the leg of the bench to look back at me, his tail curling about it during the 180.

Still looking back at him, I bump into the waist-high counter, losing my grip on the dishes. I barely save them from falling over to the other side by wrapping my arms around them. Adrenaline pumping, I swiftly transfer the dishes from my arms back to my hands, and from my hands to the bus tub nearby.

"You got that under control, Amy?" Laurel teased. "I'm fine," I put it simply, not making a big deal out of it. I need to be more careful. Getting embarrassed isn't exactly part of my plan today. Nor is Jeffrey's leaving... stop it! I don't want to spoil our last day together. I need to clear my head... I know! I'll make him a goodbye present.

On the way out of the lunch room, I spot him, content to keep eating his food. Well, I figure, let him eat; the sooner he finishes, the sooner we can spend some time together. I take the elevator up to my Class's dorm. The Hall Monitor sees me and confirms that I have today off. As I open the door to my room, and the lights come on inside, I realize I hadn't thought of something.

What am I going to make him?
