You leap down recklessly into the small ditch, muddying your rags further. With valiant effort, you make yourself as small as possible and try desperately to avoid making any sound. After a minute, you hear the voices scratching at the trees around you, and circles of torchlight stopping just short of your hiding spot. You grip your small shoulders, conserving what little warmth you have.
Eventually, after what seems like forever, the people are gone and you relax a little. Climbing out of the ditch, you are suddenly hit by a realisation - you are completely and utterly lost in the middle of the night, with a dry throat and half dying of hunger. Just as you fall to your knees in despair, you hear the sounds of talking coming from the trees directly in front of you, and the glow of torches.
