Go back to your camp

From Create Your Own Story

These creatures are trying to get you lost.

"Maybe tomorrow, by daylight. Right now, I can't see the hand before my face," you tell them.

"Dark, is it?" the Elvins call out. "Too dark, or not dark enough?" And promptly, all three lose their glow, and you are plunged into pitch black. There is only the sound of the rushing river, and the knowledge that you are far from your belongings.

"Help me go back to my things," you call. But there is no response.

Using the sound of the water as a guide, you take one step after another, back up the river valley. The darkness remains, but there is constant whispering at your ear which leaves you convinced the Elvins are on either side of you, waiting for a moment to nip your arms or push you off-balance into the water.

But the trick never comes and eventually, you decide that the only voice you can hear is that of the wind moving through the grass. You soon see a gleam from a group of rocks by the river bank, and the gleam is the clasp of your pack. You check inside but everything you own is still there.

Either they will come back to torment you or they have gone. Either way, you must sleep while you can, so you lie down, pack firmly beneath your body. You catch maybe a few hours' sleep when you are awoken once again by a ghost-like whispering.

A thin arm slip around your body, and then another, as someone's small, delicate frame snuggles close to you. You can see nothing in the pitch-blackness, but you know that one of the Elvin women has crept back around the valley bank to join you.
