Your girlfriend helps you locate the clothes in question, and you drive over to the store in the mall they were bought at. Luckily, you have the receipts.
The clerk at the store is extremely full-figured. And her voice sounds familiar.
You glance down at her name tag. MARGARET.
"Not that it matters, because you have everything, but may I ask why you're returning these?"
"Oh, we just moved, and thought it would be a good time to clean out my life a bit, make a fresh start. My girlfriend is doing other errands and unpacking."
"Where did you move to?"
You tell her the address.
"I'm your new neighbor." She does indeed live in the house next to yours. "My shift ends at six. Want to come by at seven for dinner?"
"That's nice of you. Yes, please."
It isn't until after you've introduced your girlfriend to Margaret and the three of you are happily chattering after a long day that you make the connection.
You sure as heck aren't about to say anything now, though.
As it turns out, you don't have to. Maggie gives your GF a smile.
"You've got a good man, there. Don't make the mistake I did in high school and let him get away."
