You squeeze into the gap. It is very dark but there is some light ahead, probably cast by candles. The cave goes wider and higher until you can stand up. As you round a corner, you find yourself face to face with a scruffy man, who looks rather surprised and none too happy to see you there. You realize that you just stumbled into a den of outlaws, possibly pirates.

"Who're ya?" asks the man in harshly accented Tilean. "Y'ain't one o' us! Whatcha doin' here?"

Before you can answer, he grabs a big wooden mace and lunges at you. You draw your sword and deftly parry his first blow, then counter-attack with a vertical swipe that cuts into his shoulder. Grunting in pain he dives forward to strike again, but you dance out of the way, make him trip with a kick in the ankle and finish him off with a quick thrust between the shoulder blades. He gurgles for a moment and dies, face down. Luckily he was alone.

Well, you may not know who you are, but you know that your fighting skills are rather decent. That's already a good hint. Now you better get out of here and take the path you saw earlier before the man's accomplices come back and kill you, unless you really want to wait for the pirates in case they are carrying anything valuable back to their den.
