East towards Iraq

From Create Your Own Story

You decide to go east towards Iraq, knowing that there is heavy fighting in northern Syria near the Turkish border, and some of the fighting has even spilled over into Turkey itself. The Iraq border is comparatively calm. The Iraqi government is theocratic and unfriendly, but you know of some connections left over from the American war.

You travel on unpaved back roads eastward through the desert. The ride is rough even in your four-wheel-drive vehicle. You don't see another person for miles. You imagine what it was like for the first Roman soldiers to explore this land thousands of years ago, heading east towards unknown territory. The desert probably looked the same to them as it does to you.

You look at the gas gauge and frown. You have about an eighth of a tank left. You can try going for a main road, where there will probably be a gas station. But there probably will also be soldiers, checkpoints, maybe even terrorists. Or you can stay on the dirt roads. Who knows, there may be some small town out there with fuel.
