"I..." you start, suddenly feeling quite nervous, "I've come on behalf of my father, to... implore you to release him from his debt."
"Of course you have." the man says, rather pompously, as though you arriving instead of Father was all part of some plan.
A cold shiver runs up your spine at that thought, but stay firm in your mission. "Here." you say as you hold out the rose for him, "I believe this is yours."
"No. It isn't."
His response confuses you to no end. "But I thought... didn't my father steal this from you?"
"He did. But he gave it to you. Therefore it is yours." he then chuckles, "Knowing full well what that would mean, he still gave that rose to his favorite daughter."
"What are you talking about?" you ask, your confusion only growing.
"Oh, he didn't tell you? Interesting. Well, my dear, after he so selfishly plucked it from my garden, he begged me to spare his life, that he would do anything. I asked if he was willing to give me one of his daughters in payment. He agreed without question, even offered you by name... Belle."
Your heart nearly leaps out of your chest in shock. "N-no... that... can't be... father would never..."
"Oh, that's right. He was reluctant to part with any of you at first. But then I offered him something to sweeten the deal. A magic mirror that would allow him to see anything he desired. Including his beloved wife."
"You... you're lying!" you finally cry, unable to believe such a story.
"It's true." he says arrogantly, "You belong to me now."
