You were dead tired from your job as mall security when the news came through on the TV. Every channel was playing the same thing but you didn't even want to see it, you just turned the TV off and went to bed.
The next morning you woke up, turned the TV back on and caught the continued coverage of the event. You couldn't believe what you were seeing. The White House was a crater. The Pentagon was a crater. The news was reporting the names of missing individuals, millions of them.
And they showed the streets in some parts of the world. Looting, destruction. Not everywhere, not yet. But no matter the country, the United States included, there were no police or military stepping in to stop it.
Some groups, big corporations, organized crime families, even street gangs were exercising their freedom, laying claims and enforcing them with their own muscle now that they could do so without police interference. One such corporation you note is the one that owns the mall you work at. NARCorp.
Another group known as M.N. Technical, the news reports, has already taken steps and converted a few of their properties into shelters. They plan on using them to safely house individuals they consider important, anticipating the destruction and chaos to get much worse before it gets better.
They're holding a lottery, the winners of which will each get a spot in one of their shelters along with a few friends and family members of their choosing, to live alongside 14 other chosen individuals and their friends/families.
Once the news has fully settled inside you, you realize you have a few options.
