"Let's start at the bottom"

"Let's start at the bottom," you say.

"The basement it is. Just let me get a flashlight."

Holly leads you out of the room and through a couple of hallways. She opens a wooden door, revealing a narrow set of stairs leading downward into pitch blackness. She flicks the flashlight on. You peer downward. It looks just like something out of that "girls with swords and bows" sexy medieval action movie you did last year.

As you and Holly make your way down the stairs, she says, "Never come down here alone. The basement level is full of twisty passageways, secret escape tunnels, and deadly booby traps. If you ever want to look around here, ask Jack, Annabelle, or myself to go with you. We know where the traps are. The rest of the castle should be okay to explore on your own, though."

Holly leads you through a series of narrow, musty stone tunnels. Water drips somewhere in the distance. You feel almost like Lara Croft...although you don't recall Lara ever dealing with zombies.

Holly stops as the path branches into three forks. "Left is a booby trap," she says. "Falling floor, drop of about thirty feet, spikes waiting down there to impale any unfortunate soul who falls in. When Jack and I first explored this place, we saw a couple of skeletons on the spikes." You shudder at that.

"To the right is one of the escape tunnels. The middle passage leads to a set of stairs that comes up into the kitchen. That's where we want to go."

"Wait a minute," you say suddenly. "What was that noise?"

Sure enough, another growl comes from the tunnel on the right. "Shit," says Holly. "I thought we blocked that exit up well. Come on." She loads a bolt into her crossbow. You draw your pistol and flick the safety off.

A dark figure leaps at Holly. You can't shoot because she is in your line of fire.

• Trust that Holly can defend herself and wait for an opening to shoot
• Draw your sword and charge forward
