Head away from the red glow

Red means danger. And although you came here for adventure and even to slay monsters, you don't know enough yet about this undead Inca warlord. You want to know your enemy better before you go up against it.
You make your way down the passage away from the red glow. It continues straight for about a hundred yards, then curves off to the right. You continue moving through the cave as it becomes narrower and twistier. As you approach yet another sharp turn, you hear a low groaning noise. It sounds human.
Turning the corner, your flashlight illuminates a bloody and battered man sitting against the wall of the passage. He is dressed in the stereotypical khakis of a jungle explorer, and an empty pistol, slide locked back, lies on the rock near him. You rush over to him. He is clearly near death. The man looks up at you.
"How...did you get...all the way in here..." His words are slurred and he is bleeding badly from a head wound.
"No time to tell that story. We have to get you to a doctor. Here, let me help you up," you answer.
He shakes his head. "It's...too late for me. Go on...get out. That way. When you come to a fork...go left. I...came in...that way. I thought...I could slay...the demon. But...he is still invincible. And too many...too many skeletons..."
"The demon? Tell me about him. Is there any way he can be defeated?"
The man shakes his head again. "None...that I know of." He hands you a pendant, a small piece of shiny metal carved into the shape of a female figure, attached to a silver chain. "This...the Pendant of the Moon Goddess. Take it. It will protect you from demonic magic. Beware, it will not protect you from...monster's teeth and claws, nor from the swords and spears of the skeletons. It couldn't save my life, but it did save...my soul. Find...find something down here in these caverns to make the demon...vulnerable. There must...be something. I found the pendant down here. And stay...stay away from the red glow until you...are ready...urrrggghhhhhh..."
With that, he takes his last breath and expires. You shake your head sadly, then close his eyes and cover his face with his hat. Taking a deep breath, you continue forward, further away from the red glow and in the direction of the exit the poor dead explorer indicated.
When you come to the fork, you pause. Should you go out and come back later, or continue exploring the underground passages for something that might help you defeat the demon?
