Pokemon: It's Charmander

Out of the Pokéball comes Charmander. Your Charmander is a boy. He looks up to see you and seems very excited that you're his new trainer. He yawns, and then smiles at you. "Char char." You smile back at him.
"What's up Charmander? How are you? You excited about today?" You ask him, while you start walking forward. There is only one route out of Pallet town, and it's to Viridian City. You've been there many times before, a couple times by yourself even, running errands for your parents and the Professor, but you've never thought that you wouldn't be coming back. Oye, Ryan, that sounds a bit morbid. Knock it off. Charmander walks next to you, and both of you are very quiet, but it's a comfortable silence. You're just following your feet, looking at the scenery that surrounds you.
You are walking with Charmander, when you hear a shout and then a laugh. You look to Charmander, and you both speed up the pace and walk over to where the noise came from. You motion for Charmander to be quiet, and peek around from behind a tree. In an open field, you see four guys. There is one very tall, very scrawny boy with a darkish, golden hair. Opposite of him are the three other boys, shorter than him, but all of them more bulky and more intimating. There was one boy in front of the two others, and they all had their arms crossed in front of their chests. I know these guys. They're gamblers. They bully kids into fighting them, and if they lose, they take the kid's Pokémon. What are they doing in Pallet though? You try to listen to what they're saying to each other. It's quiet, so you can make out what they're saying, but just barely.
"Man, please give my Totodile back to me. She was a gift, from my aunt, and I mean, I'd really be disappointing her if I just let you take-"
"We ain't taking your Pokémon from ya, you lost it to us." You can't hear what they're saying anymore, so you lean in further, and that's when you hear a branch break. The four boys look at you, and you smile at them. Then, the tall, scrawny boy comes running over to you. You look around to make sure you're the one he's running towards but there are no other people around so you're all that's out here.
"Hey hi hey." He says to you. He's only a couple inches taller than you, up close, but he looks very tall from far away. "I need your help. All you have to do is take your cute little Charmander and battle those guys for me."
"Woah woah woah, wait, what, no no no, I cannot do-" He's dragging you over to them before you can explain anything.
"Alright, alright, guys, this is my good buddy..."
"Um... Ryan. Hi."
"Right, anyway, Ryan is going to fight you for Totodile back." The other three boys stare at you for a moment, and you can feel them tearing you apart. You try to keep from shaking, so you just smile. These boys are very unnerving.
Then they smile back at you. "Okay, sure. You can fight us for Totodile, but if you lose, we're taking your little Charmander, and you're not getting him back." They offer, and your eyes widen. Charmander hides behind you. You just got Charmander an hours ago, you can't lose him already. You turn to the taller boy whose name you still don't know and widen your eyes. He walks up to you and pulls you into a small sidebar.
"Look, you'll be fine. Just fight him."
"Um... I don't think you understand, I just got Charmander today, I can't fight these guys without losing."
He looks at you for a moment. "Have you ever lost before?"
"I've never even battled before!"
"Well then don't start losing," he whispers to you before looking up at the other boys.
