Up is the most likely direction for a way out. And you'd like to know where it is. You can always come back later to solve the mystery of the ancient Inca curse.

The path leads higher and higher as it twists and turns. You gradually feel the air get cooler and fresher. Finally, you see something. Could it be...? You click off your flashlight to make sure. Yes. Light. Natural light. With a triumphant shout, you hurry forward, hack through some bushes with your sword, and emerge on a lush green mountainside. You can see the ruins of Machu Picchu below you about half a mile away. You look behind you. The brush camouflages the opening very well.

You gingerly make your way down the slope to Machu Picchu. There's no trail, but you make it safely down. Finally back around other people, you catch a bus back to Cuzco and your hotel.

That evening in your hotel room, you are wondering how to proceed next. That army of skeletons is on the loose inside that tomb. If you go back in, you'll have to be very careful.

• Get a good night's sleep and prepare to go back into the tomb in the morning
• Check out of the hotel and head to the airport. This seems a little too dangerous
