You lean slightly away from Daryl as you say, "Daryl, I'm involved with someone. His name's Ned and we've been seeing each other for a while."
Daryl shrugs. "That's fine," he says. "Of course, if I were 'Ned' I'd be pretty worried about letting my girlfriend go running after a murderer."
"So, who was murdered?" you ask, changing the subject.
"A kid named Jake Rogers," Daryl answers.
