He's slowly starting to look scared, like I'm a monster.  Well, two can play that game.  I look at him as if his face just came out of a very used toilet.  He looks barbarically surprised, baring his lower teeth.  I laugh, tension gone, and so does he.  A couple of our neighbors pause eating their lunches look at us like we're insane, but quickly smile themselves, returning to their plates, and soon I do the same.

The contents of my plate are still fresh and hot, and soon confirm that the toast is mushy and sweet, the bacon crunchy and smokey, and the eggs... better than usual.  Wow, I must be hungry, I'm actually liking my eggs.  I can tell that Jeffrey isn't eating yet, however, from the silence on his side of the table.
