Fury rippled through his body as gazed down at his wife. "I'm going to bury her. You're free to stay here for the night."

The hour was getting late, and I had spent the entire day trying to make my way through the Forest of Ashes. As Beldion left to begin his grim task, I started a fire in the fireplace. I slowly arranged out my rations. While it was true that I could drink blood to satiate my hunger, there wasn't exactly any food sources around here to prey on just yet, and it wouldn't do to feed on my ally. But, Craiss aren't limited to just feeding on blood. Just like other humans, I could eat "normal" food just fine.

As if in realization of how hungry I really was, my stomach growled suddenly in protest. I set aside my daily allotment of bread and cheese while I set about warming up Yora's pots. I added water, and started chopping up the vegetables in my pack. It wouldn't be much of a meal, but it was better than nothing.

No sooner than Beldion had returned to the hovel then the soup started to smell close enough to finished. I hunted for a ladle and began to stir the pot before spooning out a portion for myself and Beldion.

"We'll rest here for the night," I said after I finished my meal. He nodded in agreement, lost within his on thoughts. "At dawn we'll begin our hunt."

"You just lead me to those bastards, Ryd, and I'll forever be in your debt."

As the fire died down, Beldion searched the closet for some sheets and did his best to make me a place to sleep on the floor. He then retreated into his room.

I awoke the next morning to the smell of breakfast. And not the mundane meal I made last night but a true breakfast. I rose up, prepared to grumble my thanks to Beldion, when I noticed a strange figure humming some unknown song busying himself with setting the table. He had long auburn hair and ivory skin, with a strange black visor covering his eyes. His ears were pointed, revealing his heritage as an ellan, thought without seeing his eyes it was hard to tell which kind. He seemed to notice I had awakened, and turned to look at me.

"Oh good!" He said in delight, "you're awake!"
