You fire the gun. It kicks in your hand far harder than you expected and you drop it. The boy is hit in his arm. He growls in pain and anger and charges at you. He is a lot faster than you expected. You see the gun on the ground about ten feet away. You could lunge for it, bet the boy will be on top of you by then. Or you could use your knife when he gets close, but he is a lot bigger than you and his laser gun looks like it would be plenty deadly as a heavy club.
