School sucked balls the rest of the day. Not that it usually doesn't, but I just had so many things on my mind I couldn't concentrate. In 4th period, U.S history class, we had a little quiz. Once everyone finished the quiz, our teacher Mrs. Kennedy started calling out scores. "Bryan, 93. Hannah, 87. Alesha, 100. Gracen, 86. Johny. 26%." She kept calling out names, and I wasn't surprised to hear what I got. I didn't focus at all. I breezed through the quiz--it was 50 question multiple choice about last nights homework--circling all the A answers.
I had lunch with Alex 5th period. He sat at my table, right across from me. "So, how are you doing hiding the "stuff"?" I asked.
"It really isn't hard, Bryan. I just keep it in my backpack all day, and then I bring it home."
"But why would you bring it to school in the first place?"
"Well, as I said, I found it on the way here. I didn't have time to bring it back to my house. So I just did what any other person would do."
"Just don't get me involved, okay? You're a good friend, Alex, but don't do that to me."
"You wanna know where I found it?"
"Where?"
"Right next to your house, by were that guy lives, David."
I thought to how my dad had killed him, and how he hurt my mom, though I wasn't sure how. I knew one thing; something between the Crack and David were linked. I wasn't sure how, but chances were, David had been taking crack. It got to him, he hurts my mom, and he fucking dies.
"Well, you go ahead and keep that. You wouldn't know me to try that shit."
"Hey, I heard you got called down to the main office. What'd they need you for?"
I didn't know how to tell him. Even as my best friend, I couldn't tell him. Even, if it didn't invlove him. "I just needed to pick up something" I said.
After school, I went over to my house. What I saw made me cry right there.
