Afraid of the Dark

You look out of the car window at the dark forest. Rows of trees pass by your vision, almost unnoticed.

The black vintage car drives through the winding dirt road in the countryside. It is a quiet yet bumpy drive as the road seems uncared for or unused.

You and another child sit in the back seat, while a man in his 40's drives. No one bothers to talk.

The driver looks down, and turns the radio on. Static blares from the single speaker on the dash.

Turning the knob he finally finds a station with a woman singing mournfully in French. "At least it won't be so quiet.", you think.
