Clutching at my water flask, I made my way off the path and down towards the river bed.

I arrived in a short amount of time, though it was hard to gauge the time of day through the darkened canopy. When I arrived at the river, my heart almost fell at the site. It is as I had feared.

Ash clogged the river, choking out the fish life. Though the river still flowed along the currents, the fish who once made a home within now floated up to the surface. I fell to my knees by the river, a morbid sense of horror bubbling within my stomach. This was wrong, I thought, clenching my hands tightly into fists. Though I knew I'd be unable to see it, I gazed skywards towards the scar that tore across the sky. "Curse you," I muttered to myself, "curse you and any gods who would allow you to destroy this world."

Resolving that I would find no help here, I returned back to the path.
