Unicorn and the Raven/Die with Marill

From Create Your Own Story

"I won't help you until you give me some answers!" you insist, unwisely as it turns out.

She stares at you a moment longer.

"Captain!" she snaps.

The man you'd noticed earlier at the table in front of the window hadn't moved during this time, nor had anyone else. Now he slowly walks around the table and the two fire control consoles and stands next to Marill.

"Jensen," she says, and her voice is now the same tired voice you'd heard earlier, as if she'd used all the energy she had left, "make it quick." "Are you sure, ma'am?" he replies, uncertainly. "This person is of no further use to me," she says. "I have too many people to protect already. I don't want this person to die with us. I just wish that our deaths would be so easy."

The man in the dark uniform drew his sword.

You look for something in his eyes, some pity or mercy or something, but you see only the same sorrow you saw in her eyes.

"You don't have to do this," you say to him, knowing that it won't change what's about to happen.

"I know," he replies. "I don't have to, and so I choose to. But she's right. You shouldn't have to die with us."

The stroke is quick and sure and the quantum properties of the blade ensure a precision that otherwise only a master swordsman would be able to achieve otherwise. You hardly feel a thing.
