TBE: Throw your arms over your chest and blush
From Create Your Own Story
Quickly, blushing, you wrap your arms over your chest to hide your breasts from the man’s eyes. Involuntarily, you shiver from the mud and cold water that has completely drenched your clothes. You look at the coach, out of which two women, both older than you, but one only by a couple of years, are peering down at you and your sorry state.
“Earl Wickney,” the younger girl’s voice orders. “Get that girl up into our coach immediately!”
“Absolutely he will not,” the older woman replies. “As your governess . . .”
“I will always listen to your advice,” the younger woman says. “But I will hold my own counsel.”
“And what if she is a Vassal?” the older woman asked.
You’re uncertain what the word means, but it seems to hold a touch of fear.
“Vassals don’t dress as young girls, fall into ditches, then blush and cover their breasts,” the young woman retorted. “Now, Earl, please ask the young-lady’s name, and guide her up to the coach.”
Earl Wickney bows quickly toward the coach, then walks toward you. He pulls off his coat, and quickly wraps it around your cold, muddy shoulders. You feel the warmth of him inside the coat, and it’s an immediate relief. The coat suggests something from Colonial America, around the late 1700s, but you notice that his weapon belt looks like something out of Star Wars, complete with an ornate, if very functional looking ray-gun of some type.
“You’re name, girl?” the earl asks you.
“Jennifer Lynn Rehder,” you reply, keeping your hands strategically over your chest.
“A strange name,” the earl replies. “Which province are you from?”
“Boulder,” you reply without thinking.
“I’m not familiar with Boulder Province,” Wickney replies. “Where is it from here?”
A thrill of fear runs through you as you realize you are, to coin a phrase, not in Kansas anymore.
Do you:
- TBE: Tell Wickney you bumped your head
- TBE: Tell Wickney Boulder is far away
- TBE: Pretend to faint and hope Wickney catches you
