Sit Next to the Father and Son
From Create Your Own Story
The father looks up at you to see you approaching. He sits on the end, his son taking the second seat on the row of 5. The father keeps his face a blank. He looks across the row to predict where you will sit. Whether he is right or not, you take your chair next to his son.
The man shifts uncomfortably in his chair. The son, who is fiddling his thumbs in his lap, gives you a sheepish look before remembering his phone, which he pulls out.
The man looks like he is in his early Forties. His hair is black, and cut short, like a military cut. He is wearing a thin t-shirt with the words, and logo of a jackrabbit. He’s manspreading his jeans, and crossing his arms, defensive towards you. His son looks like he is still in high-school. He’s built well. A sports player you assume. He’s wearing a button up shirt folded at the sleeves. What’s odd about the pair is the son does not look like his father. The son has blonde hair, soft features, and green eyes. The father has sharper features, and brown eyes. You assume it’s a step relationship, but you keep that thought to yourself.
After sitting for a minute next to them the blonde son is called by the pretty receptionist. She leads him through a door to the otherside where he is put to wait in a room. The dad stirs, to sit comfortably. “You waiting for someone…?” He almost mumbles. Unsure of why he would talk to you, you look through the empty space between you. He is looking at you. His hands are in his lap, his body is turned to you, but his eyes are looking you over. “No. I’m not.” You say as a statement. “”Mmm.” He gives only the noise. “Is this for you?” Confused at what he means you say, “What?” you delivered the word with a snarky tone.
Pushing past his confusion he tries to talk to you. His name is Soloman, and the kid is his step-son. You tell him about you, and the ranch that you own.
Before long he is making you laugh. A nice guy, even if you don’t know why he started to talk to you.
After a time, he checks his phone.
“Uhh, I’ve gotta go.” His cheeks flush. “It’s uhh, my sister. She wants me to go to the store.” He gets up to go.
