See nothing of interest, and continue down the street

Manholes don't really interest you, and you have no intentions of crossing paths with the guys in the park, so you continue on your way.
As you pass by the young man, he tries once more to get your attention, but the slapping of your ill-fitting shoes covers whatever he tried to say. Besides, you have no interest in him, or whatever he's offering.
A few minutes later, you find yourself in the poorest part of town. Every building here is in some state of disrepair, and many of them are outright condemned. In fact, one collapsed not too long ago. Several old parking lots have been turned into shanty towns. The street ends against a creek, flowing from the park back up the road from you.
This part of town is notorious for crime of all sorts. The police have been run out of the area, and public works no longer comes by, either. Whatever happens here, stays here.
You feel a faint brush against your shoulder, which leaves your skin tingling, but when you look around, there's no one in sight.
