The portal seems to have given you two things: A heat shield and a wand.
You are on an super-hot moon that is about as hot as an oven on high. You can tell it is a moon by looking up and seeing a big bright blue ball in the sky that is a gas giant.
Your scanner reveals the atmosphere to be made of gaseous water, which produces a strong greenhouse effect.
