Jump out of the moving carriage

Before the man in the carriage has time to say anything, you undo the latch and fling the door to the carriage open. You look out at the cobblestones below your feet, take a deep breath, and jump out of the carriage. Captain Highmore races down the street.
“What happened? Why did you just jump out of the carriage?” he asks as the carriage tears away down the street.
“That wasn’t my carriage! The man in there was going to kidnap me!”
“Kidnap you? Do you have any idea why?”
“He said something about the pirate Captain Whitlock and my father,” you say.
