'Look,' you say. 'I already cut Evelyn's hair short. One drastic haircut I might be able to explain away. Two is stretching it way too far.'
Rachel looks at you balefully. 'We discussed that. I'm taking the fall for this, remember?'
'I know, but... look, can't you think of something a little less... well, extreme?'
Rachel's eyes gleam. Oh no. Not another brilliant idea. 'Okay,' she says. 'There is one other thing.'
'What?'
'Do the same thing you did to Evelyn.'
You don't understand at first. Then realisation dawns. 'How the hell is that less extreme?!'
'It's easier to cover up,' Rachel says simply. 'That's what you're worried about, isn't it? Well, if you do it, you can clean up easy. Nobody need ever know.'
