Downfall/Ask Debra about it
From Create Your Own Story
This is actually the only thing you can ask Debra. There is a risk if your assumption is incorrect, but you have a plan B to save the day.
"Debra, is there a bracelet in your purse?" you ask. Debra shakes her head. She wants to say something. You interrupt her before she can incriminate herself.
"Hand it over." While talking, you nudge her hand three thrice. "Hand it over." Three more nudges until Debra realises the ambiguity. "The purse," you say when you are certain Debra has gotten the message. Debra surrenders her purse to the spotter who eagerly opens it. While he is going through Debra's stuff, Debra secretly reaches under her skirt. Her hand finds yours; the bracelet glides into your hand. You let it drop on your shoe and from there onto the ground. Unnoticed by the security guy, you slide it with your foot towards the bracelet rack.
"Well?" you ask the man. "Are you done invading my daughter's privacy? Have you found the allegedly stolen bracelet?"
Your tone angers him. "It's not in the purse. That means she has hidden it on herself, is all."
"Oh no. You are not going to pull that off to do something perverted. I want to talk to your superior."
"I am the head of the security. I have no superior. Sidetracking won't do you any good, Ma'am."
"Bullshit. You said you my daughter put a bracelet in her purse. Show me the evidence or bugger off."
He never said she put it in her purse, and that's exactly why he's going to fall for it. You cannot draw draw his attention to the bracelet, that would be outright suspicious. You just have to make him find it himself, and the best way to make him go over there is to get him to display how the crime took place. It is not hard to manipulate the petty man; his self-righteousness lets him walk to over to the rack, towards the mirror where he imitates Debra putting bracelets on her wrist. When he takes them off, he finally notices the bracelet lying on the ground. His instincts are good; he knows he was outwitted, but he doesn't have evidence. He's got no choice but to let Debra and you go.
He hands Debra her purse. "I will keep an eye on you." He turns to you and adds: "The both of you, me thinks."
"Don't do it simultaneously, or you'll get cross eyed." A lame retort, you have had better repartees, but given the circumstances you are lucky to be off the hook. You don't even insist on an apology like you'd have done when the accusation had been false.
Just when you are about to leave the store with Debra in tow, a hunch makes you turn around. The spotter, still standing at the bracelet rack, follows you with his gaze across the room; and when you look at him, he points two fingers at his eyes, at you, and again at his eyes. His lips are forming the words 'I'm waaatching you'.
