This is too strange. You walk out of the changing room, intent on switching to a different costume, and instead find yourself mingling with the lords and ladies of the French court in the main hall of the palace of Versailles.

An older woman is giving you the evil eye. You know, somehow, that she is Madame du Barry, the royal mistress of Louis XV. You’ve been snubbing her, since she was once a prostitute, and is therefore beneath you despite her newly elevated station.

Your husband, Louis XVI, is standing off to the side, paying little attention to the courtiers. He’s a bore, as disinterested in you as you are in him.

One of the royal guards catches your attention. Oscar François de Jarjayes, despite the male name and the masculine uniform, is actually a woman. There are always ladies of the court flocking about her, as if she were one of the male guards.
