Flaws

Note, grogs are only supposed to have minor flaws. AM5, p28.--Perikles 11:10, 5 February 2006 (PST)

This is interesting, p17 says "should have no Major Virtues or Flaws" while the "Virtues and Flaws Rules and Guidlines" on p37 does not say anything about it, they use a 3pts. limit instead. It would be a shame to have an interesting concept broken on a technicality. --Samuel 14:36, 5 February 2006 (PST)
I would rule that the main body of the text has precedent over the summary. The thing that is shameful, is the standard of publishing in the 5th Edition book, but then maybe I've been spoilt by other companies.
Grogs, generally speaking, aren't really supposed to be interesting. They aren't characters; they are tangerines at the bottom of your christmas stocking. --Ars Magica 17:19, 5 February 2006 (PST)

Oh, crud. I didn't know that. Erp, I'll have to rethink him. --Eirlys 5 Feb 2006

In my vocabulary "should" is not an absolute. Reading "should" as a strong recomendation instead of an absolute rule would keep the rules consistent and alow a single Major Flaw with SG permission (w.o. creating house rules). --Samuel 02:18, 6 February 2006 (PST)
I think this would be a reasonable way to read that paragraph, especially since the next sentence use a lot stronger language when mentioning The Gift. --Samuel 03:48, 6 February 2006 (PST)
He's fixed. He has a tongue, he just doesn't use it. --Eirlys 13:12, 6 Feb 2006 (PST)

Right, I've stripped out his crafts abilities, after double-checking that none of the shield grogs in the main book are skilled artisans, and removed his faerie lore as he can no longer take it without faerie upbringing. It would be a shame for him to be your luthier, as his career as a shield grog is somewhat hazardous...

I didn't realize I'd removed faerie upbringing; I fixed that. I see you've also removed his musical performance ability. I had rather liked the idea of a person who doesn't speak, but communicates instead with music. I prefer to give all characters I create a bit of personality, even shield grogs-- who *should* be more than just meatshields, in my book. If this is not acceptable, well, that leaves me at something of a loss. --Eirlys 11:42, 3 March 2006 (PST)

Feel free to give him a couple of levels in musical ability. I thought it was part of his musical-instrument making activities. If he is too communicative with his music, he could gain an extra flaw, so be careful.
