Situation

Cheyney Longville lies about 2km NW of Craven Arms. It lies on the south bank of the River Onny.
History

4,27,32 Siward holds Longville (Langvefelle) from the Earl. He held it himself. 1 1/2 hides which pay tax. Land for 7 ploughs. 1 villager and 3 smallholders have 2 ploughs. The value was 20s; later it was waste; now 5s.

It is likely that the village was known as Longville at the time of the covenant.
Church
Castle

The castle is a much modified C14 moated fortified manor house, situated on rising ground SW of the willage. In 1395 Sir Hugh Cheney (d.1404) received a license from Richard II to crenelate his manor house at "Longefeld". The building is in a quadrangular form 30.48 x 36.58m, with an entrance in the northern side. It was moated.
